TREVOR NATHAN
I
have been sculpting full time since 2003, working primarily with
Oamaru limestone from the South Island of New Zealand and Hinuera
Sandstone from the North Island.
As
a rule, most of my sculptures are 3-dimensional, with the intent
of drawing the viewer's eye around and into a piece.
Having
worked within the signwriting industry for a period of 20 years,
I noticed that computers had increasingly taken over the artistic
aspects of my profession. Leaving the workforce, I enrolled as an
adult student at Waiariki Institute of Technology for the Diploma
of Art and Design. I found that during my studies my energies were
increasingly directed toward sculpture and in particular the medium
of stone.
Being
of New Zealand Maori and European descent, I am strongly influenced
by my dual heritage and the impact of both cultures in contemporary
New Zealand society.
Ka
Kite Ano.
